The 700SP is part of Yamaha’s 700 series of electronic drum kits and offers four DTX-PAD’s as well as an upgrade DTX 700 drum trigger module.

The Yamaha DTX700SP features the DTX700 trigger module with 1,268 built percussive sounds with the option to load new sounds via the 64MB of available Flash ROM using any USB memory device. Incorporated in this module are high quality acoustic drum and cymbal voices from Yamaha’s most popular acoustic drum lines. Also included in the DTX 700SP is the DTX700P pad set which contains the XP80 3-zone snare, three (3) XP70 toms and the KP65 kick pad.

Mounted on the durable RS500 rack system, the DTX700P pads offer authentic feel via the TCS heads. Additionally with the DTX700SP, up to four diverse sounds can be layered on any single DTX pad. The stack utility allows those sounds to be reproduced concurrently, and the alternate function allows the four sounds to activate in arrangement. The Pad Song task lets you trigger MIDI configurations from the pads to add variety to the drumming.

Yamaha DTX700SP Price & Review

The Yamaha DTX 700 SP is the bare bones introduction to the DTX 700 series and while only containing the pads, module and rack in the bundle it allows flexibility to the drummer. Rather the drummer is looking to build a solid electronic practice kit by adding to the 700SP or incorporate the pads within an acoustic set, the options are diverse and allow for multiple setups.

With the inclusion of the solid DTX 700 trigger module, the buyer has over a thousand sound options, 128 instrument voices and the ability to load custom sounds at will via USB memory input.

At a price tag of around $1,900 for the set the value to price ratio is well distributed.
