Yamaha DTX520K

The Yamaha DTX 520K is an electronic drum set offered by Yamaha Drums a subsidiary of Yamaha Corporation a Japanese multinational organization.  For more information on the Yamaha brand visit the Yamaha Drums Page.

The Yamaha DTX520K model is a slight step up from the DTX 500K model in that it includes an XP80 DTX-PAD snare with TCS head, upgraded cymbal pads and the RS500 Ergo Rack.

The DTX 520 is a complete electronic drum set that includes all of the basic components needed to get started drumming.  This includes a DTX-PAD snare that provides authentic snare expression in three zones, directly on the head as well as open and closed rimshot.  The cymbal pads included in the DTX520K feature ride and crash versions with cup, bow and edge voices as well as allow for cymbal choke or mute.  Also included in the set are 2 tom-tom pads, a floor tom pad, kick drum pad, hit-hat pad with controller, rack system and the DTX 500 trigger module.  Not included in the set is a bass drum pedal; however any acoustic or electronic pedal can be used.

Yamaha DTX 520K Review and Price

Yamaha’s DTX520K is a solid step up from the DTX 500K with a snare and cymbals that allow for more realistic sounds along with a more durable rack system.  From a price standpoint the cost is nearly double for these upgrades at around $1,000 for the complete set minus bass drum pedal.

From a value standpoint, DTX520K is the first step into more realistic drums but at quite a high price.  A new drummer may want to drop down to the 500K set and a more experienced drummer may want to jump up to a higher end electronic kit to get more value for the dollar.  All in all though the DTX 520K is a quality set.
