Tour Custom Maple

Tour Custom shells were made of 100% maple utilizing Yamaha’s Air Seal System with 7-ply bass drums and 6ply toms and a 60-degree R2 bearing edge for a rounder profile and added low end. Other features of the Tour custom set are standard Yamaha intermediate drum qualities including, bass spurs, YESS and triple tom holder.

Yamaha Enhanced Sustain System (YESS)

Having a long history with Yamaha’s high end drum sets such as the Maple Custom, the YESS mounting system was featured on Tour Custom drum sets. This rod clamp system permits attachment of the drum shell to the tom holder without the need of a hole in the shell for the rod to clear. The YESS clamp is connected to the shell at the nodal point with two bolts which allows the drum to move freely without corrupting the shell’s resonance and tonality.

Tour Custom Snare

Included with each Yamaha Tour Custom kit was a matching 14×6 wood snare with a wide tuning range and amazing sensitivity. While not very common, these snares can still be found online today as standalone items for as low as $100.

Review & Price

The Yamaha Tour Custom is a solid intermediate drum kit that can still be found online for as low as $1,200. This is a bargain for a kit that provides as much value as the Tour Custom does. There are however some rarer versions such as the Yamaha Tour Custom Moto X Limited Edition that features a special pin-striping finish and is priced much higher than standard models.
